My husband and I have gotten our 3 year old son all the normal vaccines when he's supposed to get them....I can not decide on this swine flu vaccine. I keep waffling on it big time. Last year was his first flu shot and he ran a fever for 4 days after. No fun there. At one point last week we decided no to both flu vaccines...now I am waffling again. I just keep going back to feeling like it would be putting an unknown in his body. All I find is "it appears to be safe" or "it seems safe"...well I want to know IT IS SAFE before I let him get it. Of course his dr. said "well I am giving it to my kids". There really is no data that I can find out there that says yes it is safe. I mean I understand that there's risks with every vaccine but this one really scares me b/c it's new and rushed and there's no consistent information (that I can find). His dr. told me to do the flu mist this year if I get his regular flu vaccine. I have NEVER gotten a flu shot in my life that I know of. My aunt and grandma both had horrible reactions and my grandma actually ended up in the hospital for 2 weeks after she got hers several years ago...I was considering getting one myself but my luck I would be like them.

So long story short.....what are you normal regular vaccinating moms doing with the H1N1 vaccine?

If our naval hospital ever gets it, we will be getting it. It is no different from getting the seasonal flu shot to me (which baby Kate had no problem with) the H1N1 just didn't make it into the seasonal one - but it will be next year I have read. We had the flu in June something awful - suspected swine flu but we were seriously too ill to even go to the doctor, plus I didn't feel we should spread it anyways so we just stayed home and felt like crap for a week - and I don't want to have to go through that again with another strain. Hubby is military and travels, and our kids mix with kids whose military parents do a lot of traveling, so I feel they have a great chance of being exposed to flus.

We're getting it. Its the same flu vaccine formula, but a different virus. Its basically what they do every year, since the flu changes from year to year. AskDrSears - The Vaccine Book
I figure my boys could get a fever from the vaccine or they could get a fever AND respiratory issues from the flu, so its a risk I'm willing to take.

I'm pretty sure that I will atleast be getting it. My son & I are home 99% of the time anyway because I just don't want to go out & take him out with the flu going around.

My 3yr old son Landan died 23hrs after being diagnosed with Meningococcal Meningitis. It is a potentially vaccine preventable disease. The vaccine isn't on the schedule until 11-12yrs but is approved for use at age 2yrs. Our second son received the vaccine in December 2010 when he was 2yrs old. My son & thousands of other children prove that a vaccine is needed at a younger age.
