When you started having children, did you ever question vaccination? To me questioning & researching are two different things. I know people that vaccinate are sometimes looked at as though we're blindly following Dr.s orders & have no knowledge of what we're doing. So did you ever question that you were doing the right thing?

My 3yr old son Landan died 23hrs after being diagnosed with Meningococcal Meningitis. It is a potentially vaccine preventable disease. The vaccine isn't on the schedule until 11-12yrs but is approved for use at age 2yrs. Our second son received the vaccine in December 2010 when he was 2yrs old. My son & thousands of other children prove that a vaccine is needed at a younger age.

Well, we don't have any living children but I have done some research. I have never questioned vax'ing really.

I remember researching follow up studies to the study that linked autism to the MMR vaccine. I was in college, so I had access to the actual articles, not just the summaries that are printed in the newspaper or in magazines, so I did my research well before my sons were born. Whenever there is information in the mainstream media, I'll read those summaries, and if I can, I'll track down the original article or at least the abstract (the author's summary). Either Parents or Parenting magazine had an excellent article about vaccine safety about a year ago.
I read the information packets that I get with the vaccines too. When the H1N1 vaccine was first released, I looked into how it was made and once I found out that it wasn't any different from the typical flu vaccine, I was fine with it.
Most of these vaccines have been around for a long time. We got them, and in some cases our parents got them. When negative effects have been found to be linked to the vaccines, they have been well-publicized, so, for me, there's no reason to believe there's a huge conspiracy, nor is there any reason to research each vaccine in detail. And in spite of what non-vax'ers think, yes, I'm aware that there's animal and human tissue, aluminum and traces of mercury in the vaccines. And yes, I'm ok with that. I'm more ok with exposing my children to them rather than risking their exposure to diseases that were deadly a generation or 2 ago.

Not so much with the older kids, because it wasnt as big of a media issue then, but around the time when Melora (who is 7) was born, it was becoming really big in the media, and I was a little concearned, I dont have much in the way of medical knowledge, neither does anyone in my family, but in the end, I looked at it and thoguht, 'I have 4 kids who have been vaccinated, and theyre fine' and that won me over.

Hi! I am new and am excited to join you ladies! My name is Megan and I have a 5 week old DD named Alaina, but we all call her Lani lol! I just wanted to add my input hope you don't mind! i have never questiond that I will Vax her. I was vaxed, my DH was vaxed, and they vax his little sister who is almost 7. The way I see it is that almost all kids are vaxed as far as I am concerned and you hardly ever hear the "horror" stories about what happens, the only reason IMO that it is such a big deal is because when something does happen it is very publisized.

Glad to join you!

Not at all. I don't believe in the community immunity. I'd rather my children not go sterile with mumps and such.
