I don't think you should cancel your trip.

I don't know if you're breast feeding (I seen your pumping siggie) but I think regardless of whether or not you vaccinate, breast feeding/breast milk is your best friend for your child's health and especially for traveling. I recently went to Hawaii and breast milk was available as a food source anytime, anywhere. If we were to get a bug, that is the best default. It hydrates, it's safer than the water, it gives them comfort when traveling... I just can't say enough good things about it.

I know you're worried about the risks of catching a "vaccine-preventable" disease. When they are this young, vaccines REALLY aren't 100% effective. Also, which "vaccine-preventable" diseases are of concern to you? Which ones are more active in the places you're going? Ask yourself what you're really worried about so we can help you find your answers.

I hope that helps.

Cheers!

My youngest is about the same age as yours (02/18/10) and although we haven't had the time or extra money for any major trips, I would take him if we were able to go. We do plan to go to Florida in the Fall to see my IL's - but that is obviously not outside the country, so I am not sure that helps you. You might know better than I what that area is like, but I would think that it is fairly similar to here in regard to risks. As Michelle said - if you are nursing that greatly reduces risks in general. A number of things they might recommend vax for are eliminated by that - since she won't be exposed to "food or water" at all. Personally I would take her...but you have to do what feels right to you.

GL coming to a decision!
