I'm Ashley (22) and expecting my first baby in May. I am reading up on everything and this is one of the things I have come across. I have no clue about anything when it comes to vaccinations other than doctors just assume everyone wants to do it. Just wondering if you ladies could tell me why you choose not to, whether it's you telling me or a link or whatever? I just want to make an informed decision for my baby and, of course, I want the best for him/her.

And congratulations on wanting to make an informed decision. I too, questioned vaccines before my daughter was born, but didn't do enough research. She ended up getting the hep B shot at birth, but that is all she has gotten.

We don't vaccinate, because once I did the research, I just couldn't ignore what I found. I don't like the idea of injecting toxic chemicals into my tiny baby. That is my bottom line.

I read What your doctor may not tell you about childrens vaccines by Stephanie Cave and would highly recommend it as a good starting point. It breaks down each vaccine in an easy to understand manner. It is the book I had my mom read, and that DH will be reading soon.

We all had chicken pox...our parents had measles and mumps. Polio is completely non-existent in the U.S. The Hep B vaccine is designed for a 250 lb person, not a 7 lb newborn, plus the chances of a newborn being exposed to hep B, unless a parent has it, is like 0, yet it is being injected into day old babies. Just doesn't make sense. It is things like this that made me question the safety of all vaccines.

You have to be comfortable with whatever decision you do make. The day I decided not to vaccinate, I felt a huge weight lifted off me and was completely at peace with my decision.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some things, it is pretty late, and I'm tired, but I'm sure some of the other ladies here will have some more insight.

Hi Ashley!

WELCOME to Choosing Not to Vaccinate!

I was one that did NOT research before I had children! I regret that very much. I didn't research, in fact, until I was pregnant with my FOURTH!

Check out our welcome sticky. TONS of book suggestions, links, state laws..etc there. It's a fabulous wealth of information.

I choose to stop vaccinations on my older children and not vaccinate my baby because, much like Kaite, I was appalled at what I'd found out. I could NOT believe that known carcinogens were injected into my children. I mourned over the fact that it was too late to protect my older kiddos from this. I cried often. I still get emotional if I think too long and deep about it. But what is done is done. I could not believe the huge amount of proof that our govt has seen yet they still promote it. In fact...the conspiracy theorist part of me wants to think that they are doing a bit of population control these days...by PUSHING the vaccines (like flu/h1n1) on pregnant women....yeah...that is just scary!

Anyway...I started out thinking I'd just delay and do them slowly...then I started thinking well maybe I'll wait even longer (like til two) then I had plenty of time to research and discovered I knew I'd NEVER feel comfortable injecting anything into my children...ever.

Anyway...The books I've found helpful are Dr.Sears' The Vaccine Book (this is a book that will basically just tell you what is in the vaccines, what the likelihood of catching that Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) and how dangerous it is. That is the extent of it's useful information to me. It has a lot of talk about alternate schedule that Sears recommends....I dont bother with that part.

If you do choose not to vaccinate...the books I highly recommend are "Raising a Vaccine Free Child" and "Raising Your Child In Spite of Your Doctor"...both are great the first is my go to read when somethign comes up and I need some reassurance on my decision lol. (which WILL happen)...

Above all...I'm so happy you chose to stop in...I'm beyond thrilled you are researching before youhave your first child....that is FABULOUS!!!! So kudos! You have to be comfortable with whatever you decide.

People research which carseat or stroller to buy extensively...worried about features or safety...but rarely research vaccines and circumcision and so on.

HUGS

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

Well said Martha! I can never get what I want to say out the way I want it to sound. I need to get the "Raising a Vaccine Free Child" as well, I'll add it to my list.

Thanks ladies, and both of your posts were great and very informative. I agree Martha, I haven't done all the researching that I'm going to do (obviously) but it does surprise me how many people just do it because it's the normal thing to do. Seems like I've got a lot of reading to do. Good thing I have, oh, 34 weeks left.

I think the best thing to remember is this: You can always catch up on vaccines...but you cannot UNDO them....

This was what I went by when Olive was a baby I wasn't convinced to go vax free until she was six months old....but keeping that in mind gives you time to decide what you feel is right...
