I know it's not that common to keep your kids rear-facing in their car seats in North America like it is in Europe but regardless of the reasons, the facts are the facts and it is much safer. It's even less safe to have your kid forward facing in a carseat that has been installed incorrectly!
My SILs SIL (ya, we know each other lol) has never been quiet about her opinion on non-vaxing parents (we are the devil, in case you were wondering) and she berates my SIL for also not vaxing in a really annoying passive aggressive way.
We were at my nephew's baptism yesterday and I noticed her DD (who is the exact same age as DS) riding in a True Fit that has been installed in the "recline" angle for RFing, but it's forward facing (for those who don't know this seat or get this explanation, it's ***** backwards lol). Her straps were practically FALLING off her shoulders... but I'M the monster.
Well it just struck me today that kids dying of ANY "vaccine preventable disease" have much better odds than kids dying in car crashes. Car accidents are the NUMBER 1 cause of death in children 12 and under. Number 1!!!! So why shoot up your kid full of toxic vaccines and spew hate for the parents who don't when you can't even be bothered to read the owner's manual so you can install and operate your car seat correctly?
I am totally with you!!!! I still have Olive rear facing and she's 2.....My mom has yet to say anything but she's pretty tiny so I keep saying "Well her seat says that it's rear facing until 35 pounds and since she'll take forever to get there I dont even bother with turning it around yet" and she just agrees....Nobody else really has noticed....But anyway...I totally agree!
Sounds like she just blunders thru life....sadly I used to be a life blunderer to some extent...I mean I cared...I just didnt' know any different and had no computer to read up on the safety of such things. Once I was wiser I did differently.
It really drives me BATTY when people insult other peoples way of doing things and are apparently uneducated in what is actually SAFE!!!! *sigh*.....
I guess everyone can't be anal and Extended RF, BF past 1, non-vax, no plastic, organic...etc etc etc their kids...or we'd all be the same.....but some people just need to read the package insert on the carseat (and vaxes) but man....you it's not like it's rocket science.

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

My BIL actually mentioned to her that my son is still RFing (they're the same age, do you think that might pique any interest) and she didn't bother finding out why... then my BIL flat out came out and told her that it was much safer but her sisters kids all ride FF and they have really cool TVs in their minivans that the kids love to watch. This is not the case of "I didn't know any better" or "it's safer to not drive with a screaming toddler" it's a case of "my doctor said it's okay and everybody else does it" So whether it's safe or not Doctors and CNN will win every time. I digress. LOL
OY!!!!! It's so great your BIL was advocating to her. Unfortunately some people are just dense. I know a few people this way...it's depressing!!!

pretty near sighted, imo. sorry you have to deal with that nonsense! We are keeping DD rear facing for as long as possible (probably when she maxes out the seat requirements). A lot of women in my PR have gone FF because they feel bad for their baby. Um, they know no different RF vs FF
Yeah...Olive will be RF for a while yet....She loves it cause she can see all the kids! LOL

I cringe when I see kids with the loose buckles down at their belly button. It's like how do you expect them to be held in by that??? Drives me nuts! But yes, I'm the bad parent because I researched and agonized for months and years over the best decision. Sounds fair!
Lili rode rear facing until she met the height requirement for her seat which was about 3 months ago. Nobody ever questioned it or asked. My friends will argue their point by saying "my Dr. said 1 and 20lbs so it's fine" it's truly annoying that they don't bother to educate themselves!

I agree!
Mona rode RF until her 3rd birthday, when she was getting close to the RF weight limit. I got a lot of flack from the same person who questions my vaccination decisions -- my mother "That poor child can't see out the window, her legs are bent..." yadda yadda. Mona was very happy and safe back there. The AAP quietly changed its recommendation for carseats to RF until age 2, rather than age 1. I don't think most parents have heard of this yet. Unfortunately the "1 and 20 lb." may remain ingrained in popular myth.
I really wish they'd just change the law. It's not like its something as controversial, or a government money maker, as with vaccines, so why not just change it? My sister has been giving me trouble about keeping Maddie RFing, but I know it is just because she doesn't want to admit it is safer. It is too inconvenient for her to keep her twins RFing past a year. I just don't get it. I guess if you had a 2 door car, RFing might be a pain, but she drives an SUV. I plan to bring it up to my BIL when we visit in a couple weeks. He used to be car seat safety trained, and a big stickler for safety, so I'm going to try to convince him. That'll show my sister to doubt me!
I haven't said much about ERF to many people, but when I am asked about it, I just say we will be keeping her that way because it is much much safer. You can't really argue with that!
I agree that it should be law here...you know...missouri law doesn't even say rear facing til one...it just says "proper child restraint system".....so as long as they are in a carseat...argh.....put some specifics on there....then there will be repercussions for those who choose not to listen!
I'll admit I HATED it when they changed the law from 4 to 8 for no more booster....but I also had a 4 year old that WAS looking forward to the evacuation of the booster lol....anyway...in hindsight I'm happy for the law but at the time I was frustrated....but I think this is something much more important than that....
Now I cannot imagine my children being without a booster....just like I cannot imagine having Olive FF yet.....I think it really should be law...in concrete...no getting out of it! LOL

DD is 19 months and still RFing. She has about 10 more lbs to go until I'll need to turn her around. And while she hates the car seat and im sure she would love to turn around, in the end I'd rather have a safe non vaxed RF angry child:-)
You know, my only fear with RFing is Maddie will get nauseous from it. I am very prone to car sickness, and have to be in the front seat facing forward or I will get sick. I even have the same problem on airplanes, I can't read, look out the window or watch a movie without getting sick, which I guess is pretty rare. I'm not by any means using this as an excuse to turn her seat, I just don't want her getting sick everytime we drive. Has anyone else had problems like this?
I have heard of others having this problem....but I have yet to have that problem myself.....HOpefully she doesn't develop that til later...I didn't start getting carsick until after I had children...now I get sick if I read where before I could read in the back laying down on a hillly bumpy road and no problems

Me too! I used to be able to read in the car and now I can barely use the GPS without getting queasy!
