I was listening to the radio on the way home and they were talking about the new airport scanners and it got me thinking, we are flying in a few weeks and now am iffy about putting DD thru it. Am I overreacting?

When we flew last month they escorted me to the regular ones because I had Maddie. Our airport only had one of the full body scanners. I would imagine you won't have to go through it.

DH works at the airport and said pilots and flight attendants are trying to get people to boycott them...not sure why.

On the radio they were discussing that people felt like it was a violation of their privacy. The hosts on the radio did not agree with this, neither do i, however, I am concerned about radiation in DD especially at her age and size. I have no issue getting a pat down or whatever. I would rather be safe, but I just don't want to expose DD to anything unecessarily.

Saw this article, Cosmic Log - Are airport X-ray scanners harmful?

I don't think I'd go through it, let alone take my baby through it.

I dont think I'd go thru...if they asked me to I'd say is there an alternative I dont really want my baby (or me for that matter) going thru that.
Momma to Emma, Elzie, Gretchen, Olive, and Rogan

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

I'd be leery of the exposure to radiation, too...

I refuse them, I have pre-cancerous skin cells on my face and my Dr warned me about going through them because of the radiation levels.
And I was fine with the old pat down, but the NEW pat down is full hands feeling up my breasts (under bra!), "waist band checks" which is hands down my pants looking for my underwear band (man are they in for a surprise when my non-underwear moms goes through! LOL), and then up my thighs till they touch "resistance" (its its enough to make ME feel a little uneasy because they are touching my genitals! I used to be a waitress at a strip club and got less groped there).
luckily they didn't try to do this to my child because I would have been arrested for the things I would have said to them! Its VERY intrusive feeling and I have issues with the fact we teach our children good and bad touch and this felt bad even to me.
So your options are to be scanned or pretty much violated (i'm really not kidding its INTENSE!). I always walk to the metal detectors and hope I don't get asked to go to the scan machine. We now leave early incase we have to do the extra stuff. Also I make sure the get the full name of the agent BEFORE they do the pat down.
If you have prosthetic breasts you have to remove them also! Its SICK.
One TSA agent told me that I have the option not to fly....well I really don't. My husbands jobs entails us to travel. All those Flight attendants, pilots, airport employees and other people who travel for work really don't have any options on this what so ever.... I could go on but I just get more and more worked up the more I think about it. I feel like the terrorist won at this point it so upsetting to me

Glad you chimed in, I was hoping you would. I hope we survive the preflight stuff. I am going to take some meds (i have bad anxiety and did take some meds prior to a 5.5 hour flight over the summer) so maybe i won't care, LOL.
