I'm curious to hear opinions on the vitamin k shot (after all, it's a vitamin! [sarcasm intended] and the eye gunk. I guess the hep b shot also.

It's more than easy to find info that is for giving them, but I'd really like to hear the opposing side and not an article. Someones real opinion!

One thing I've heard that I'd like to know if there is truth to is that if your circumcising your son, the vitamin k shot is more important.
How easy is it to access liquid drops of vitamin k?

Thanks for any info you can pass on!

I don't know much about vit k and circumcision but there is a post a few down on thus board that talks about vit k and the oral version of it. Hopefully that can help you out. As far as hep b goes, if you don't have it, then there's really no need for your baby to have it at birth. Same goes for the eye goo. If you don't have an std, then you don't need it. Good luck!

i had to do a STD test to waive the eye ointment and i waived the Hep B. I went into labor at 36 weeks and was a birth center transfer to the hospital and never got around to waiving the Vit K so she did get that. She had jaundice and there is a lot of opinions out there that the Vit K shot can make jaundice worse in babies, who knows if it was connected but who knows.

We dont do any vaccinations anymore....we did the oral vit K (and he still was jaundiced but not severely so I dont know bout the connection or not...he received vit K drops at birth, 1, 2, and 4 weeks)....and the eye goo is overkill...it's to prevent infection if you have group b or an std....I dont like it or believe in it or it's efficacy....we waive it as well...however we had a homebirth so these things were easy to skip...

We didn't circumcise either.

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

My DS did have the vitamin K shot and was very jaundiced - my DD did not have it and she wasn't jaundiced at all. I've also read about the k-jaundice connection, but I've also read about Pitocin/Epidural jaundice connections so I can't say which for sure as I had ALL of them with my first and none of them with my second hehehe.

I've read that boys aren't circumcised until the 8th day of life (if you're jewish) and coincidentally that is when an infant will have enough of his own vitamin k to sufficiently clot. We don't circumcise but I did find that pretty interesting that for hundreds of years it was done that way by Jewish folks!
