I'm not sure if I've ever posted here. I lurk mostly and decided to introduce myself. My name is Amy and I am a SAHM to 2 little girls, Allison and Claire. Neither girl have had any vaccines (except vitamin K at birth).

I was wondering what you ladies do about "check-ups." Allison just turned 2 in July and Claire was born this May. I took Allison to 3 well baby checks and decided that it seemed like the only reason for the visits were to get vaccines, then lecture me about not getting them, then tell me my baby was fine. I decided to stop going to them because they seemed pointless. I took her for her 2 year well-baby check, though. I just took Claire to her 3 month visit and have decided the same thing: to not go to any more unless my kid gets sick and NEEDS to see the doctor. I will probably take her for her 1 year just to make sure she really is doing fine. I can clearly see that they are growing well, meeting milestones appropriately and having a pretty good head on my shoulders so I know if something is wrong. Other than getting a weight and length check, I don't see the point of going.

What do you all do?

BTW, we have a new pediatrician that, although she would prefer if we vaxed, she supports our right to decline and leaves us alone about it.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this as my LO is only 4 mo. My mw required us to see a ped w/in days of our dd being born and we did. We let him know we were not going to be vaxing and altho he didn't agree, he didn't give us a hard time. But since we were bf'ing, he wanted us to come back the next week. We did, and after that his office was really pushing formula and wanted us to come back again the next week. At this point I was done w/ going in just so she could be measured, and paying a good amt as well. I ended up cancelling that appt and we haven't been back. I don't see the point in going if they are just going to pressure shots and formula. That being said, a lot of no vax mamas choose not to go unless their child actually needs to, then there are others who will go in once a year in fear of backlash and having their children taken away (among other things) They do this to show that they are taking care of their children. I have no idea what we will do. The good thing is, the ped we chose, does not vax in the office so no nurse can run in and stick my sweet baby w/o my knowledge.

I go to all the well baby checks to keep a good rapport with my doctor. I don't mind telling her we don't vax, and the more she sees me and hears it, the less she bothers me about it. I don't want to show up with my tail between my legs - so to speak - if/when we need medical attention and she hasn't seen hide nor hair of us for years kwim?

Thank you for your responses ladies. I may take Claire for a 6 month well-baby check. We'll see...I just don't like the idea of taking my healthy kids into a germ-infested doctor's office, unless I have to.

We saw a regular ped until Maddie was 6 months old. I told her since we weren't vaxing, I wasn't going to bring her in till a year, and she didn't really like that. We now see a naturopath and she is very supportive of not vaxing, and Maddie saw her at 1 year and 18 months. Now I'll probably just take her in when she's sick.

we did all well baby checks. our dr is ok with us not vaxing. a friend's 9 month old was diagnosed with a heart murmur (and a hole in his heart, needing surgery) at his well baby visit, so to me, i would rather go than not go.
