So we just had a pre-op appointment for my 2 year old who is getting his tonsils out on Tuesday. They are interfearing with breathing and eating so this is urgent. Our md was out so we saw another one who has been ok in the past. The first thing he asks is does the surgeon know he has not had tetanus. I said no. He calls the surgeon and comes back and says he recommends strongly we vaccinate. I ask if he means tetunus or all of them. He tells me all of them. So essentially they want me to give my 2 year old all his shots in one day, while his immune system is struggling and 5 days before surgery. I refused of course since they could not do a seperate tetanus shot and am wondering why the importance of tetanus. I understand why he wants the other shots due to the stay in the hosptial but what is the signifigance of tetunus and surgery. Does anyone know?

Honestly, I really think it depends on the hospital / Dr's office and I say this because one Dr will not care if they are vaccinated and one will. Its such a toss up. But, say you were to vax him before surgery, ALL in one day at one time!? That is a little excessive.
