Hello!

Just wanted to share my good news. As I believe I am the oldest mom-to-be on the thread--I will be 44 next month, I have of course been worried about chromosomal abnormalities. I also have had several losses (ectopic twins, and a miscarriage).

Our NT scan had given us better odds...then the 2nd trimester blood work came back and even further improved our chances (1/2600-for Downs). Today (18 weeks exactly) we had the anatomy ultrasound with MFM doctor where they measure all the bones, organs, nose and palate, brain, etc. And all came back perfect for both babies!! We are thrilled. I know this doesn't mean 100% that all will be healthy and fine, but every indicator is that things are going well so I am going to relax in that regard. Also, my cervix was nice and long--5.8, and they confirmed that we are having one of each flavor!! A boy and a girl!!

Now my stupid hematoma is still there--but it does appear to be resolving which is good! And, it is not close to either placenta so that makes its risk go down. I am continuing on modified bed rest but with increased activity over the next two weeks. If all goes well then he will let me have even more activity for the 2 weeks after and then I can return to work! DH doesn't want me to...he would much rather err on the side of EXTRA caution, but if I can get a couple months of full salary in before the babies come, I think that would be ideal.

Anyway! Thanks for listening...I wanted to share my good news, as so much fear is always put on us "older gals". And today wasn't the first time I have heard a doc ask me, "and these are your own eggs?!?" As if a woman my age couldn't possible make a healthy baby/babies! Ha!

Wow, How exciting!! I am very happy for you.

I am so nervous myself for the same reasons. Next Monday I go in for a level 2 scan and an amino. I am a little nervous as I had high FSH to begin with and they said I would not get pregnant without donor eggs. I proved them wrong but now I am concerned with this baby.

Congratulations!!

No, I had none of it... My husband lost his job last year and we do not have health insurance. So it took me forever to find a clinic here that would take us on a sliding scale rate. Long story short, my first prenatal appointment was at 15 weeks. It was worth the wait though - I am getting great care now!

That's wonderful!! I can relate to the age-related remarks (see my post) those are excellent odds and no doubt you are breathing much easier now. I am going in at 12 weeks for what they call IPS screening. They do blood tests and an ultrasound to give you an idea of the chances something could be wrong. Although it is nervewracking both of my other pregnancies turned out to be very good odds as well and both kids are just perfect and well ahead of their milestones Enjoy your pregnancy and I'm glad to read that your hematoma is healing. That's great news. I had a low lying placenta and spotted with my daughter. It scared the bejeezus out of me but all was fine. Just no sex for the pregnancy but I wasn't in the mood anyways lol. Congrats on your twins, that's awesome!!

Thanks Jodie! I think we must have had that same screening you will have--but we weren't given a name for it. They took bloodwork and combined with NT scan--u/s where they measure the nuchal fold, etc. Best of luck to you and I hope that you are feeling well during your 1st trimester!
