I went to my 1st appointment yesterday. I am 11 weeks. I have my first ultrasound on Monday the 21st. I've decided to do the amnio test. They said we will learn sex and will learn of any defects to the baby.

I know it can be dangerous. Anyone else have it?

I opted to have the CVS test instead of the amnio. But our genetic counselor went over everything with us and if you look at the percents the risks are pretty low. I forget the actual percent, but if I remember correctly it was well below 1%. Have you met with anyone to over the procedure with you yet?
Oh, and congrats on your pregnancy.

If you are unsure then wait. You have time to make a decision still. Do some research and take a hard look at the numbers. One basic question to ask yourself is - will it change my decision to keep moving forward with this pregnancy? If it won't then you might want to consider less invasive (lower risk) tests.

This is just my opinion but I feel that women need to be given all the facts so that they can make informed decisions.

Congratulations!

I just had genetic testing done . It was only blood work it was not worth it to me to have the Amino. I think they can tell the gender from the blood test too.

Congrats on your pregnancy:-)
