I've been thinking that I may not let them do the test tomorrow after all. I have heard it isn't very accurate and can create undue stress with sketchy results. Besides, I have a level 3 ultrasound scheduled on Monday with a perinatogist.

Anyone share any info on the quad test? Did you take it?

I declined it. I was told that there is a high percentage of false results. So I figured it wasn't worth it.

Hi,

I don't quite belong here as I am 33 but I wanted to reply to your post. The triple screen doesn't have false positives per say. All the test tell you is whether your risk, for having a baby with Down's Syndrome, Spina Bifida and whatever the third thing they test for, is high. If you are high risk, then you have hte option of getting the amnio which tells you for certain.

I had the triple screen with this pg and it came back normal but I was very stressed out waiting for the results. Still it gave me a peace of mind. Had the test come back positive, I would have done the amnio.

I didn't take the test. I just felt that it would be a lot more worry and undue stress. I also knew that no matter what the results, it wouldn't change the way I felt about the baby. Do what you are comfortable with. Don't let anyone pressure you into, or out of, anything that you aren't comfortable with. It's your body, your baby, and your decision

I did the quad screen and my results came back just fine. My sister had it done a few months before me and hers came back fine as well. It has a false positive rate of about 5% is what the genetic counselor told me....that's not really all that high. It seems like the test is completely inaccurate if you just go by who has posted on JM about it! LOL But, ya gotta remember that most people who actually post about something are the ones that had a negative outcome. The others you never seem to hear from. And, remember, there are hundreds of thousands of ladies who've had the quad screen and the results were just fine. Not all of them come to JM of course

And, yes, the quad screen is not a diagnosis at all.....its just a risk factor assessment so all it can tell you is that you have a higher or lower chance of having an effected baby, not that you will have one. Only an amnio can tell you for sure. Its really just a step to allow you the opportunity to decide if you want to pursue further testing.

We've decided to decline it. There seem to be too many false positives. I'm enough of a worrier as it is!
