Hello my name is Jennifer, I am new to the forum and very excited about speaking to other women over 35 who are pregnant. I am 40 yrs old and I am about 9 weeks pregnant. This is my second pregnancy I also have a six year old son. This pregnancy was not planned, but a blessing. Today I had a mild brownish discharge, and became very concerned. I called my docter and he asked if I had sonogram done yet for the babies heart beat and I said I had. He said it is common and could be from dehydration and told me to drink fluids stay off my feet and go in for a check up to make sure all is well. However, my husband and I had intercourse about 3 or 4 days ago, could this be from that or could this be the start of a miscarriage. I did't have this with my first pregnancy. The discharge has stopped, does that mean everything is allright? If it is the beginning of a miscarriage or problem would it have continued or gotten worse? I also feel a slight almost expanding full feeling in my lower abdoman at 9 weeks is your uterus stretching enough to feel? I have a lot of gas, maybe thats what it is. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, however, I find it somewhat anxiety provoking at times, I always worry something is wrong. I hope someone can shed some light for me. Thank you for listening,Jennifer

Hi Jennifer and welcome! Congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I am Denise and I am also 40. I am due with a little girl on June 5th but if she is anything like her brothers and sisters she will be late also.

Brown spotting means old blood. There isn't a lot to worry about unless it is bright red with cramping. Bloating is very common in early pregnancy. Discharge is also very common in pregnancy. Panty liners are a big friend of pregnant women.

Pregnancy is a distressful time. We worry all the time if our babies are ok. Until we start feeling them move we have not clue if all is ok.

I am sure you are fine.

Glad to have you here!!!

Hi Jennifer! Welcome and Congratulations!!!!

If your dr isn't concerned, I would try not to be. I know it is hard. I have heard that some spotting is possible after intercourse. But just as Denise said, it is bright red blood with cramping that should cause concern.

Best wishes for a happy, healthy pregnancy! Glad to see you here!!!

Hi Denise,
thank you so much for your advice and quick response. You were like an angel, my husband and I were extremely concerned and you put our minds at ease. I went to the doctor today and had a sonogram and all is well. They said what you said about the old blood. God bless you and your children and baby girl to be.

Thank you again,
Jennifer
