Okay, so this is something I've wanted to do for a while, I'm going to school to be a nurse and the reason is, is bc i've always wanted to help people, and save people and its my passion to do that. I hadnt ever really thought about surrogacy until I was looking over the different boards here on JM and saw this one.. My name is Holly, i will be 19 in Oct. I am married, and we had a beautiful little girl in Nov. of 08. I feel like surrogacy is a beautiful thing and my thing is that i want to help out in the biggest way, thats mainly why i want to be a nurse.. well i've been thinking about it and what would be greater than giving someone life? To give someone the greatest gift you could ever give? The money looks nice, but thats not why I want to do this. I know I am young and am probably getting looks right now lol but I'm not saying jump into right now but its something I would like to consider and with alot of time and research, i believe this could be for me.. I just have a few questions!!

What is the difference with Traditional Surrogacy and Gestational? If I read correctly TS is using your own eggs and the other is not? is that right?

Which do you prefer and why?

Is it hard letting something you've carried that long for go?

Is this something you would have to be financially and ur marriage be willing to take on?

Any advice or tips or anything would be very much appreciated.. I have mentioned this to my husband tonight and at first he automatically said NO! The only part I mentioned to him was the money part bc i figured that's all he'd listen to lol, but then i told him how not only the money, but I would have that satisfaction and just knowing that I did something so wonderful, its amazing to me..

What does your family think about it?

Thanks ladies,
Holly.

Hi Holly!
You are correct, traditional surrogacy uses the surrogate's own eggs. This is the avenue my husband and I are traveling on right now! My best friend is our surrogate..in fact, we do our first insemination in less than a week
Gestational surrogacy is IVF. Most surrogates are of this form.
Yes, money is always a driving factor in things like this, which is one reason that the minimum age to be a surrogate is 21. Unless, of course, you are doing this with someone related or close to.
I think your heart is in the right place for wanting to do this- but explore everything before jumping right in. Money is one thing but think of your body, your husband and family. Anything that causes marital riff usually isn't good.
I do wish you good luck!

Thank you! I havent been on this board since i posted that, but now im in that situation, i am 19 so im not sure if i could do it or not. i know you said you have to be 21, unless its someone related or close to. My best friend told me her cousin wants someone to carry her baby, but she'd rather have someone she knows. well these people are like family to me, we've been best friends since we were 5, so about 13 years. Would I be able to do it for them? My husband and I are going to talk about it tonight, he says he thinks he'd be OK with it, I would love to, but i forgot about the age thing.
