I have always said I would be a surrogate mom if I could be - to give the gift of life to a family in need has to be an amazing feeling. I am 24 y/o and TTC child #2 currently. DH and I know we only want two children so I would have plenty of time after we complete our family to help another family. How did you get started? Please share any stories you care to!
My kids' dad's girlfriend has a business connecting surrogates and intended parents. At the time she had an intended parent but no surrogate so she asked me if I would be interested. Not really a glamorous story. It just sort of fell in my lap.
I apologize for the late reply...I suffered a miscarriage in June and my IF's and I have had a hard time dealing with everything. I had to step back for a while, but now I am back and ready to go again.
There are alot of different ways to get started in surrogacy. You are having another child soon, so obviously you have the time to research and do what some surrogate forget to do and that is research everything about surrogacy.
There are many different websites that offer free classified, where you pretty much put yourself out there to the world and hope that you find a great couple through that method.
There are also a ton of agencies out there offering services to match surrogates with intended parents. Most of the time, these agencies offer you a base pay and do all of the "hard" work that goes with matching. With this though comes its own challenges. You may not have the opportunity to match with the couple of your choice, they may offer you couples and it be a business deal rather than a friendship. Some agencies are exclusive, meaning if you sign with them, you can't sign with anyone else or post your own ad.
So it really is a personal choice on how you get started. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!!!
