You must fast for 12 hours before you take this test and you are normally expected at the lab first thing in the morning. A blood vial will be taken to check for your normal resting glucose levels. You will then be given an aweful tasting orange drink that is super sweet and kinda tastes like that McDonald's orange drink. A couple of hours later you will return to the lab and another blood sample will be taken to check you glucose levels after have your system shocked with the sugar. Plan to take the morning off because it eats into a good protion of the morning and some tests require further blood work at various hours through the day.

I don't have a sweet tooth and sweet things on an empty stomach don't sit well with me, so with the orange drink I felt a little sick to my stomach but you can't have anything else to eat or drink so be prepared.
