Hello everyone! I wanted to ask about drug classifications. My OB prescribed me codeine (I am 18 weeks along) and I looked it up. It is a class C drug that can possibly harm the fetus. I don't understand why he prescribed this? I also was taking this for other reasons before I even knew I was pregnant. I am pretty scared.

I was on Tylenol 3 (codeine) for most of my pregnancy and my baby was and is perfectly healthy. I had a huge surgery when I was 17 weeks along to remove a 10lb ovarian cyst. So I was on loads of medications while in the hospital and pain meds for a good portion of the pregnancy. I was cut 12 inches down the middle of my abdomen and it was pretty painful at times from the healing while trying to stretch and grow all at the same time.

yes, you can take it. I wouldn't be so anxious to find out everything about every drug.. sometimes the benefits will outweigh the risks.
