okay, I have a question...some people say that they give their LO a bottle of EBM to "get a break." But, don't you have to pump to make up for that missed nursing session anyway? Then you don't really get a break.
Maybe I'm being too paranoid about missing a feeding? I'd love to go out to eat one night with DH (which, by the way, has only happened once since Colin has been born!!) but I worry about missing a feeding, etc.
He only eats from one side per feeding, so I guess I could feed him before leaving and pump before leaving as well? Seems like too much work!!!
What do you all do???

Take a night away! It's only if you regularly give a bottle that you would have to pump that feeding. Look at this way - think about those nights that Colin slept through the night or slept longer than usual, you didn't have to pump those nights did you? But the next night or thereafter when he woke up as usual to eat, you still had plenty of milk. If the timing is right, I say feed him before leaving, and then just go! Enjoy your night!

I agree - it really is more of a comfort thing... 1 night won't affect anything but just make you a little uncomfortable!

I'm paranoid too, so I've only done it once in 8 months! DH and I spent the night away from Jacob for a wedding. I pumped at 7pm and then had a couple glasses of wine, skipping the pump before bed. I woke up engorged at 3am though! It did not affect my supply, so I'm sure you'll be fine. I just don't like using any of my freezer stash if I cannot replace it because I work so hard to get any extra. Enjoy your birthday night out! You deserve it!

Bobbi- First let me say I LOVE BF'ing Libby and I won't give it up (there are times I've often thought of EP b/c I'm so stressed out about her intake and not knowing if she's getting enough)...
But Libby takes 45-60 minutes to eat. She LOVES to be BF. So if I choose (which I used to never do but have started to occasionally- like once a week) to pump instead... I get a good 30 minutes to myself I never had before. So i can go get groceries, or actually make dinner for once lol.

For me even though I was still pumping it did feel like a bit of a break to let DH feed him when I did those first few feedings back when he was a month old. Now it's not so much about getting a break, just giving them some time to bond. Luke has been giving him a bit of trouble when I'm not home lately. So I want DH to do more "cares". I usually make it the last feeding of the day and I just pump before bed.

How many times a day are you pumping? I am down to 4x and timed it so I pump at 4pm then I don't pump again until right after I go to bed. My 4x produces exactly what I need each day to feed Dashiell. It's easy now because I can actually have a life
