During the day I never have issues pumping for Owen and recently he has begun to pull of the breast and scream while nursing so I end up giving him a bottle of EBM anyway. I find that dealing with that all day and then having to get up in the middle of the night every 3-4 hours to pump is really taking its toll on me. Every night I think about switching him to formula because I'm just so exhausted all the time. The one night I didnt wake up to pump because I was passed out from exhaustion, I woke up with serious engorgement pain and a clogged milk duct. How do you ladies do it at night?
i found i had to night wean myself.
once Kyla started STTN at 9 weeks old i would have to wake up and pump cos of the pain.
it is still critical for your supply to nurse/pump at night. but if you want to stop pumping at night, the best way is to stretch your night sessions out. so instead of pumping every 3 to 4 hours, pump every 4 to 5 hours. and then keep moving it to longer stretches.
as long as you are pumping or nursing at least 8 times in 24 hours you supply should be fine.
I weaned slowly from nights. I would start spreading out how many times you pump. Rather than every 4 hrs, go every 4.5, then 5, then 6. Your body will kick down production every 3-7 days, depending on how well adjusts.

I've been doing middle of the night pumps now since the girls were born. Recently I wanted to cut out my middle of the night pump too. I just kept stretching out the time and my body adjusted very fast. I decided that I didn't want my supply to drop that much so I have added the session back in. I find that I usually wake up at least once during the night and I just get up at that time and pump since my body is awake rather than setting an alarm and being pulled out of a deep sleep.
Good luck with whatever you decide. I know how hard it is. I long for a night of 8 hours straight. LOL
