i usually spend 10 mins pumping at work. My breaks are really short. I get to work early and pump for about 15 minutes. It is easier for me to take more frequent, short breaks, than a longer break. I use a Medela Pump in Style and double pump.

on average, you should pump for 20 min. but i didn't always have that much time. getting in a 10 min pump is better than nothing! i also used the medela PIS double pump. i pumped every 3 hours when i went back to work at 8 weeks and was able to drop a pump after a couple months. but as time went on, i had to pump more to keep up.

I try to pump for 20 minutes if it is quiet I go for 30. Sometimes I get interrupted and I have to go in and out of a pumping session or cut one short. I go back to pumping if it has been under 10 minutes, if it has been longer than that and I am interrupted I usually just finish. I am a nurse and my coworkers are pretty good about covering my patients while I pump or calling me in the room I pump in(it has an intercom)to let me know what is going on.

I think that the more expensive the pump (ie double electric) the faster it will be. Obviously pumping both sides takes half the time, and a lot of ladies find they get a better letdown pumping two sides at once. I love my pump in style, and you CAN buy them secondhand. Look on ebay or craigslist.

Don't worry about the volume / time. You're pumping now after breastfeeding right? You'll find once you pump in place of a feed, you'll get a lot more.

I pump for 10-20 mins. I dont go back to work until tomorrow but I'm pretty sure when I go I'll pump for about 10-15 mins.

I have a Medela PISA.
