My Dd is 1 month old and I have EBF, I am going to go back to work in August and I need to pump. I have pumped twice and given her a bottle and I only get about 3 ounces, she eats fine out of the bottle but still wants to eat when the milk is gone and I have to Bf her after that, is this normal and how do I get more milk when I pump so shes satidfied?

don't worry .... you will get there. Remember that right now your body is making the right amount of milk for her to eat by breastfeeding. If you pump as well, your body has to adjust and start to make more milk. If you're already able to get 3oz then I think you will be ok. You have to remember that when you return to work you will be pumping to replace a feeding. Really, all you need is enough milk to get you through the first couple of days. After that whatever you pump in a day, should be enough to feed her the next day.

In terms of getting that stash for the first couple of days - Most of us find that we get the most milk first thing in the morning. If you can feed her on one side and then pump the other you should be on your way. I did that for the two weeks before I returned to work and soon had enough.

I hope that helps!

I don't give any bottles to Matthew because I don't want him to associate me with the bottle so when he is with me he only gets breast but dh gives him a bottle when I am at work. He first had a bottle at about a week because I had surgery and then he had one bottle at around 5 weeks and since he took it fine that is all I gave him before I went back to work. I started pumping when he was 3 weeks and I tried to pump every day after his morning feeding. I was never a pro at nursing and pumping at the same time so I waited until after he was done with his feeding and then I would double pump for 20 minutes. If you are getting 3 oz while bf'ing then that is great and I would not be worried about supply right now. She may just be wanting to nurse after the bottle because you are there and so is the boob! It will be different when you are at work.
