I heard its best to pump in the morning. What does that mean exactly? I wake up at all hours of the night so should I be pumping one of those feedings? Also is it better to pump right after a feeding or waiting like an hour or two before the next feeding? I pump 15 minutes but should I try for longer or am I just wasting my time trying to go half an hour or so?

Are you EP or BF and pumping part time?

I've heard that milk production is best between midnight and 5 am because of hormones? (I'm sure some other ladies will correct me if I'm wrong on this!) I think a lot of this really depends on your supply. I pump for my little one for the time I'm at work only, so those pumps I'm able to pump enough to feed her the next day without doing much additional pumping at home. However, if I didn't make enough I would probably get up during the early morning hours to pump (she STTN so she doesn't get to eat til between 4 and 5 am). Sometimes on weekends I pump the side she doesn't eat from just because I know it will be a little while before she wants to eat again.

I've heard that it's good to pump right after a feeding if you're trying to increase your supply. If you're not trying to increase your supply I'm not sure why you would want to do this (maybe a stash?). I typically pump for no longer than 15 minutes, but will likely go longer when my LO starts to eat more.

Hope this helps a little...there are many ladies on here with more experience than I have that will chime in I'm sure!

When I was building a stash before I went back to work I would bf Matthew his morning feeding which was usually somewhere between 6-8 and then I would double pump for 20 minutes afterward. The side I fed him off of I usually only got about an ounce but the other side I would get a couple of ounces. I usually shoot for at least 20 minutes because it seems like most ladies, me included, seem to get a 2nd let down between 15-20 minutes of pumping.

yeah - I also pumped after the morning pump. My boys were both older when I went back to work so I was only feeding them on one side. Once they ate, I would pump the other.

In terms of time, I would say 15mins minumum, and then 5 mins after you stop producing milk. For two reasons ...1 you might get another let down and 2 you will stimulate your supply.

good luck!
