So - I noticed that my supply has been a little lower lately first off. I pump 5x a day - (5:30, 8:15, 11:15, 2:15, and before bed (around 9pm normally).

I get home from work around 4:30, and Michael may be hungry around 5:00/5:15 (depending on when he had his last bottle)

I was pumping at least 4 ounces, sometimes closer to 5 during my 8:15/11:15/ and 2:15 shifts. For these 3 shifts, I'm now pumping a little less than 4 ounces, maybe exactly 4 ounces at times.

THEN - I get home, and go to nurse Michael, and he seems like he is more agressive at the breast - like he isn't getting out what he wants. This is about 3 hours after my last pumping. He normally will nurse, and fall asleep once I get home, and then at night I never had a problem with him falling asleep, and last night - he was just not happy after I nursed him - like he didn't get enough?

Does this make sense? I moved up my pumpings at the end of last week (my last pumping used to be at 3:00) so, that may explain the lower supply when I pump - but wouldn't that help the supply when I get home? I wanted to make sure I had 3 hours in between my last pump, and my first nursing session for it to build up.

hmmm ... tricky. Your LO could be having a growth spurt or starting to teeth which might explain his fussiness.

If you are really worried I would try to feed more often, or pump more often if there's any way that you can. Remember that waiting longer between feeds won't necessarily give you more milk. On the Kellymom website they use an analogy of milk supply being like a tap ... if you turn it on the milk flows, and if you use it more milk will be made to replace what baby drinks... leaving time between feeds doesn't mean more milk will be made. For the real story you can go here ....kellymom.com :: How does milk production work?

Are you sleeping and eating well and drinking lots of water? All those simple things affect your supply.

I hope that helps a little.

I have no advice except good luck and I understand the confusion/frustration. I'm in the same boat not pumping out as much, but hang in there!
