I am going to start pumping extra for a friend who adopted twins. How can I boost my supply and get good pumping out put while still making sure that my son gets what he needs?

I'd suggest pumping after he nurses, or pump on one side while he nurses on the other (if you're that coordinated... I'm not). That should help boost your supply naturally. You could also try fenugreek, which is supposed to boost supply some. You can check out this link kellymom.com :: What is a galactagogue? Do I need one?

ditto to what Erin said. I would pump after every feed (or during if you're coordinated enough) power pumping, eat and drink lots, try fenugreek / more mothers milk etc and also try pumping more frequently .... think every couple of hours like a newborn

Good luck. I'm sure your friend will be thrilled with anything you can give her.

Hey there! I just mosied on over here from the breastfeeding board and may 2011 pr. I have recently started trying to up my supply to donate to a mom nearby from Human Milk 4 Human Babies on FB. I decided to just pump after every feed. Even if it's jut 5 minutes and even if it's only an ounce. It seems to be working out pretty good so far. I don't expect to be able to get a ton of extra but anything is good. Right now I tend to get 5-7 oz per day. I could probably get more if I tried harder but I don't pump after EVERY feed. I do skip some. I also try to eat oatmeal at least once a day because that's supposed to help too. Good luck! You are doing an awesome thing!
