I pump after I give her every bottle. Well, now my baby is sleeping through the night and I am waking up soaked and engorged in the morning. Other than setting an alarm and pumping in the middle of the night, is there a way my body will regulate this on its own over time? She has only barely started sleeping through the night (3 days). I absolutely hate waking up soaked. Thanks in advance ladies!

I am having the same issue. I asked a friend who is a nurse and was breastfeeding then EPing once she went back to work....and the advice they said is yes, the body does regulate itself. So at the beginning, for example, if your baby nursed every 2 hours and took 2 ounces, as the baby's feeding changes, so does your body. She said once her daughter started to feed less frequently, she still pumped the same amount in a day. so instead of pumping 2 oz every 2 hours, she would pump 6 every 6 hours...hope that helps...it hasn't happened for me yet what she said but, my daughter also has only slept through the night (5-6 hours) a few nights as well and I wake up soaked...so I'm in the same boat. here's to hoping my friend is right!

It seemed to take a little while - but it will happen! I used the lasinoh pads, and they seemed to absorb pretty well.. I still use them just in case (there are times I do sleep in a little more than others - and can leak then still!) - but, the engorgment isn't even close to what it used to be! I used to have to pump first thing when I woke up, if I showered, I would have a hard time getting dressed without spraying everything down! But - now I can do some things before I pump in the morning.

Give it a couple weeks - you should be fine!

I went and invested in some Lansinoh pads and I at least don't wake up soaked. I think the engorgement is getting better after a week. I guess I will just have to wait and see if the leaking will go away. I am pumping a lot more milk less frequently since I only pump when baby eats. Fun times.

It will definitely regulate itself, but it does take time. Now I pump just before I go to bed (~8:30-9 PM) and don't pump or feed again until they wake up around 6, and I not only don't leak, but I don't even feel engorged anymore. So it will regulate.
