I never thought I'd have a c-section
My name is Amanda and this is our story.
At 40 weeks and 3 days pregnancy, I didn't think Andrew was ever going to come. I was at my doctor's appointment that day and I was scared. I was told every week since my 36th week that my baby was going to be over 10 pounds. I was determined to have a natural childbirth, but I knew and the doctors knew if he was over 10 pounds, I would have to have a c-section. So we set up an induction day for the 29th of May, 4 days later, week 41. I was to be there at 6pm to get my induction started. At this point I was sooo excited to learn I would have my baby soon. Needless to say I was put off by the doctor's until 8pm. Finally they took me into a room and since so many women were in labor, they decided to send me home, until my blood pressure shot up. I pre-eclampsia, but they decided to go ahead and induce me anyway. From 10pm to 1:00am I walked and I walked and I walked some more. I really wanted to do this naturally. It was something I had my heart set on and I had been successful with my daughter. I was in for a surprise. After walking, I was still only 1cm dilated. So they decided to start the pitocin. I had pitocin with my daughter, so I knew what to expect. At 7am, I was 2 cm dialated. Still no pain meds and I didnt want any. At 11, I was 4cm dilated and didnt want meds and my water was broken. At 2pm, I was 7cm and was begging for meds. I was in so much pain that it was completely unbearable. At 4pm, the doctors and nurses came in and informed me that they were going to stop my labor because my son was in a lot of disstress. At 5pm, my labor was started again. At 8:30pm, my labor was stopped again when my son's heart rate dropped again. I was prepped for an emergency c-section. At 9:04pm, I had my baby boy. A completely healthy 8 pound, 2 ounce baby. He was perfect. His heart rate went down because he had the cord wrapped once around his neck and once around his body. So it was in our best interest to have a c-section and I'm thankful to those doctors everyday!
