Our families both knew Chris was going to propose. He proposed at my parents house in the middle of the night, my dad was at work but my mom was at home and knew what was happening so she came downstairs immediately after. She was crying because she was so excited. I called my dad and Chris' parent who were all very excited also.

It was pretty much a process of gradually breaking everything to her. The "in a relationship"to "being serious" to talking about getting married. She was okay, as long as I was sure about it. My dad still doesn't know yet - one thing at a time, lol. We'll take a trip up to NY at some point so they can meet and I can break the news to him.

I just called my mom and told her over the phone. The wedding was just technicalities, since we were common law anyways, so my parent's weren't surprised, but happy.

My in laws found out the day we got engaged. We were already supposed to go there for dinner that night and MIL caught the ring almost immediately. They were pretty happy too.
