How many are you / did you invite to your wedding?? and for those who have already had their wedding...How many actually came??

DF and I have been trying to get our final guest list ironed out! It seems like we just keep adding and adding people but then I tell myself even if the invite list gets long not everyone comes so we should still be ok! But I feel like we just need to stop adding people and say "we're done, this is the list, and if someone didn't get invited then I'm sorry but we can't invite the whole world!" lol Have any of you had to make cuts on the list and leave people out?? I just feel like you have to draw the line somewhere and I just don't know where to draw it!!

I'm at approx 200 adults right now and that's just a draft list. That doesn't include anybody's kids (which I expect about 20 of).

And that's my skimpy list. But since we aren't doing a dinner I'm not really worried abut how many I invite as long as I don't go over the Venue's fire limit. LOL

OH.. and that list includes NONE of Dh's family. We've not discussed who needs invites yet. But we don't expect any of them to go.

Yeah I'm worried about the food aspect of it and the favors! Everything just adds up the more people that are there! That's awesome that you don't have to worry about the food part!

we are doing snacks. Dessert trays, veggies, maybe some deli meats and breads (which I will try and coax my grandmother into helping me bake and freeze).

But most of the places I looked into had a 100 plate minimum, at $50 a piece.. and not one had anything my dh can eat (he has a sensory disorder)... so it was useless. And that was all on top of the $3000 rental for the space for the night. My parents did a cold plate dinner (potato salad, macarroni salad, deli meats , and rolls) when they got married and my aunt did KFC, and they spent over $1000 on food. Just as easy to say "hey, go home, eat, change into comfy clothing and come back to help me party up the evening while we go do pictures." lol.

A friend of ours owns a deli. I'm going to have my mom ask if we can have them slice up meat that we buy in bulk for a fee. Just needs to be bagged and we'll do the trays up ourselves. We're a pretty crafty people.. and the fact that I can probably round up 20 hands to help makes it go faster.

That's awesome! We are actually getting an awesome deal on our food because we know the caterer so that helps! We only have to pay for the cost of food and whatever he has to pay his help. Still expensive but it would be probably double if we were paying full price!

lol that's awesome!!

For me, I just can't see the need to spend $5000 on fancy food at a catered meal at a hotel, or banquet hall. I might consider $5000 on an all you can eat buffet stocked with things DH loves though. LOL.

he's already worried about who's going to feed him the day of the wedding. I keep telling him we'll find someone to either go get him food, Or I'll pack him Chinese that he can heat up.

We started out with a bare minimum list of about 50, but after talking about it for a while we decided to just bite the bullet and invite everyone that we want to. We're at about 130 right now... Trying to nail it down a bit because I need to send out save the date cards in the next couple of weeks. A lot of our guests will be coming from out of town and out of state.

We invited over 200, i can't remember if it was 225 or so, maybe just a few more but def. not more than 250. We had about 150 show up...there were more than i expected who said they were coming and didn't.

Shea - we're getting married February 19... we're just doing one round of invites... We changed the save the date cards so that they say You're Invited and they direct people to the website that we'll have up. They can go there for all the info, updates, registry, they'll rsvp that way, etc.

I wanted to give people plenty of notice so that they can make travel plans, but I didn't want to spend the money for save the date cards AND invitations. So we decided to go this route. I'm hoping that it won't be confusing for people...

I've only recently heard of save the date cards.... I'm assuming their for when you want to announce a wedding but don't have the venue yet?

I think they're more of a "it's too early for a real invitation but we want you to mark this on your calendar so you can plan for travel and not make other commitments" type of a thing. Since I've got a lot of people traveling I wanted to give them as much time as possible to plan. Generally you do have the venue because then you're sure about the date! Mine's all booked...

I'm sending out invites in January, i'm hoping to have the venue booked, but if not I'll personally call everyone later to tell them where. Since we're booking from the US, but getting married in canada it's not so easy. But there's now way I'm paying twice for postage! LOL
