Are y'all having an open bar at your receptions? I want to have some drinks for those that would want one, including DF, but I don't want to break the bank. I'm also a little worried about people drinking too much... and a good portion of my family are teetotalers...

Just wondering what everyone else is doing...

our our venue options have a bar that they open to make money for the establishment. I have no desire to purchase alcohol for everyone.

We are doing NOLA hurricanes a few days before the wedding at a BBQ which we are providing the alcohol. We had them on our wedding night in New Orleans, and we decided that's something we want to do for our family. It's pricey enough as it is (it's equal parts mix and booze over ice) so there's no way in heck I'm going to pay for it at the wedding too.

my family are drinkers too, but that's fine by me. As long as no one acts idiotic I wont ask to have the bar shut down. I am having the Emcee issue a warning early in the night that all it will take is ONE person and the bar will close for the night.

We will have a cash bar. The majority of our guests drink and with 200+ invited there is absolutely no way I would ever consider buying alcohol for everyone!! We will however be paying for 2 (possibly 3) kegs and have to pay for the bartenders ($80 per bartender and we will need 2). But if ppl want mixed drinks or beer other than the kegs they r on their own!

The places back home charge $200 for the bar, and that includes the clean up of the hall after (or else we'd have to sort the garbage) . Well worth it in my opinion. lol.

We had an open bar and we even hustled the guy enough that he threw in the upgraded liquor at no charge! LOL

I think we're going to have a self serve bar set up... we have to have someone there that's certified by the state to serve alcohol, but my little brother is a bartender so he said we can use his certification and we'll just have glasses, ice and wine set out, plus tubs of cold beer and soda. Probably water and coffee as well... I think we'll pass on the hard liquor.

we won't be.... but then, I'm not even sure how big of a reception we'll be having - because it's going to be such a small wedding... We're more interested in having the ceremony & then just having an afternoon together with our families... we have 4 kids & want the wedding to be as special for them as it is for us. Lauriel doesn't drink, and I rarely drink - and none of our family for friends are what I'd call big drinkers, so I think bar some celebratory wine at the ceremony, we probably won't even HAVE alcohol.. probably more of a BYO-if-you-want...
