hi everyone im melissa married to israel we have a 3 year old son israel II and a daughter sofia whos 15 months. we dont plan on having anymore but we're not using any birth control. ive always wanted to have a home, water birth but hubby didnt want me to because i had/have? a heart condition. (when i was 16 they told me i had one and now they say i dont).so since my hubby cant use that as an excuse i want to have a home, water birth if we were to have anymore kids. i have no idea how any of that works so any input would help.

how do i find a midwife?
how much does it cost?
does that include the supplies?
how do you get the birth certificate?

sorry if these are dumb questions,i just want to know everything about it.

edited to add a question

do you have to go to the hospital to have you and the baby checked?

how do i find a midwife? I did a google search for homebirth midwives in NY... and called a couple in my area... another idea is to ask around at LLL or local doulas
how much does it cost? this varies from state to state. Mine cost $5000 (this included all prenatal and postpartum care), also my insurance will be covering a portion.
does that include the supplies? I had to purchase a $50 birthkit
how do you get the birth certificate? my midwives filled out a form, I brought it to the county clerk's office, and we were issued one immediately.
do you have to go to the hospital to have you and the baby checked? nope, we didn't.

how do i find a midwife? I did a search online to find my home birth midwife.

how much does it cost? My midwife charges between 1,500 - 2,100. We are paying 1,850.

does that include the supplies?
It includes prenatal, labor, delivery and postnatal. I have to purchase our birth supplies which will run us $50-$100

how do you get the birth certificate? I believe my midwife fills out all the paperwork and we go file it ourselves.

do you have to go to the hospital to have you and the baby checked?
We don't have too. My midwife will do that for us. She comes a few days after birth to check on him and I then at our 6 week appointment.

i got recommendations for a midwife from my tribal area over at mothering.com, and also from a local yahoo parenting group.

i paid $1816.52, tax included. this covers all my prenatals, labwork (but not u/s), my birthkit, and a land birth, or a waterbirth with my pool. renting her pool for a waterbirth is another $100.

i think my midwife fills out the paperwork for a birth certificate and i file it with vital statistics. i know i asked, but i can't remember now.

no, you don't have to go to a hospital to get checked afterwards.
