Hi everyone, I'm new here! I just thought I'd share my birth story!

Gabriel was born on December 5th, 2006 after an uncomplicated pregnancy at 37 weeks, 4 days. We had a home birth and it was wonderful!
Around 6:30 in the morning, I called my sister in Holland (who was almost 41 weeks pregnant) and she told me she was in labor. I was very excited for her and we talked for about half an hour. About 5 minutes after we hung up, I got my first contraction! At first I didn't think it was a contraction, just sympathy pains or something ;-) But 20 minutes later I had another one...and then they started speeding up, 15...10...5 minutes apart! I called Cary (DH) and the midwife, then called my mom, sisters and best friend Gay. I spent all morning on the phone, it was so funny when I was talking to my sister and we were both breathing through the contractions!

Around 11 my friend Gay came over so I wouldn't be alone. Around lunchtime the midwife and her assistant came and when she checked I was 5-6 cm dilated (I was 2-3 cm dilated when she checked the day before). I kept walking around the room because sitting was too painful during contractions. After a while, the contractions became worse and I decided to lie down on the bed. As soon as I got another contraction, I felt my body pushing!

So Gay ran out and got the midwife, who was outside inflating the pool for a possible water birth. She checked again and I was 8 cm. The last 2 cm went fast. In the mean time, my sister called and told me that she had a baby girl!
At 3:16pm I started pushing (well actually my body did and I just went along with the flow, it was really weird!). At 3:37pm, Gabriel was born! He was perfect! 6 lbs, 7 oz, 19 inches and cute as can be.

Looking back, it was a lot easier than I expected. The pushing stage was the worst, but all of it was bearable. The only bad thing was that after Gabriel was born, my contractions sort of stopped for a while which caused my to bleed about twice as much as usual. It wasn't bad enough for me to go to the hospital, but I did have to stay in bed for a couple of days because I would get dizzy if I got up.

I'm so glad I had a home birth, I was just so comfortable the whole time! Oh I forgot to mention that Cary almost missed the birth, he finally showed up around 3pm! We were all surprised by how fast everything went, 8.5 hours total.

Here's Gabriel at one day old:

Welcome to the board and thanks for sharing your homebirth story! Sounds like things went perfectly. That's so amazing that you and your sister were in labor at the same time! :-)

The world today is upside down because there is so very little love in the home, and in family life. We have no time for each other. Everybody is in such a terrible rush, and so anxious…and in the home begins the disruption of the peace of the world.

Thanks! Yes it was absolutely amazing! I mean, we joked about it since our due dates were only 3.5 weeks apart, but never in a million years expected it to really happen! It's fun having 'twin cousins'

Aww what a great story! You're so lucky that you didn't go overdue too, I'm so paranoid about that happening this time lol!

I was worried about having him 3 days late which would have been Christmas! But thankfully his birthday is not too close to Christmas now

Great story! That picture of him at one day old is giving me big time baby fever! He's precious. Did your sister have a homebirth too?
