I learned of homebirths here on JM. I used to be very active on the debate boards and after some debates regarding homebirths last summer I looked into it more/researched it and decided it was totally for me! I can't wait
I learned of home births on my own actually. Just doing research into pregnancy and birth. Ours came to be by a horrible first birth experience, watching The Business of Being Born and my husband meeting our midwife. I can't have a baby in the hospital here unless I have a repeat and theres no way in hell I'm doing that.
After having 4 in hospital births, including one unneceserean, there was no way I was going back to the hospital. I started looking into birthing centers, but figured if I wasn't going to the hospital, why go anywhere.
When I started calling homebirth MW's I didn't even think they'd want me because of the section, but I found my MW's and LOVE them. They have been with me for the last three births, even my last that ended in an emergency csection because of a placental abruption. My MW was in the OR with me even.
I can't wait to have this one at home with them again. So relaxing and peaceful.....I love homebirthing!!!

#12 is on the way
After my first birth (hospital), I had actually been looking for a birth center but there is not one near me. I mentioned this to my cousin who was pregnant at the time and she said that she was having a homebirth. Her homebirth was with a doctor in FL. Doctors here won't do homebriths so I found a midwife. Then I found a whole new me. =)
Expecting #4 in February!!</div>
Well, I think my first exposure to it was in my Feb 07 DDC because we had (at the time) two really awesome hosts who both had home births. There was another member who had an unassisted too, I think she is still around but she doesn't post in the PR anymore, neither do I.
Honestly I never pictured myself having a home birth this time either, I wanted to go to a birthing center...unfortunately it's twice as expensive. My stupid military insurance doesn't cover it for active duty which is such total BS I can't even put my anger into words. But in any case, I figure it's the same darn thing, I'm just going to be at home instead, whatev

Grandma had 16 kids at home so it wasn't ever something I learned or found out about it was just an option that I liked. Then after working on a hospital L&D floor I fell in LOVE with the homebirth ideas.
Actually from my DH. He was the first child born at home. I didn't even know it was an option, so I researched and realized this is what I want, thankfully DH was already on the band wagon being home birthed, so this baby will be second generation home birthed
I don't know if my husbands grandmother knows of me doing a homebirth. I'm not sure if she'll be negative or positive. She had her kids at home I believe, but then she later on in life worked in the L&D of a hospital.... IDK...

Well before i thought the only place you could give birth was in a hospital! But then my sister got pregnant (her son is now 9 months) and said that they were going to do a birth center birth with a midwife. i had never heard of such a thing! She also said they were going to do attachment parenting. I thought she was just crazy.
But i started researching and it was after finding LOTS of information about home birth and hospital births and i decided that a home birth (or birth center) would be safest for us And so that is what we will be doing
Now i just have to get pregnant :-p
