I'm so frustrated right now! I want a home birth so badly, this is my 5th baby and most likely my LAST chance to have one! My insurance WILL NOT cover a dime toward it, and with 4 kids we simply can not pay out of pocket for it, it will be over $2,000 or more out of our pockets. I'm so mad, I told DH I'm even willing to do it unassisted and he freaked, lol. Any advice???

Bryson 2,and our lil man Noah Alexander turns one year on 7/5/10!
I had to pay out of pocket as well, about $3000. I had a home birth with my last baby and it was worth every penny. You might try meeting with local midwives to see if they offer any discounts for paying cash or are willing to work out a payment plan or barter for services. I hope you're able to find a way to make it work for you!

I agree. Do some local research of midwives. I'm sure they all have different price ranges and are willing to work with you. You never know without looking out for your options Hopefully you can find one who can work with you.
We don't have a lot of money or private insurance (husbands boss doesn't offer it) so I have state aide insurance, which doesn't pay for home births. So we are paying out of pocket ($1,860) and have made what we can of payments each visit. She has a sliding scale based off income. She can charge you from 1200 to 2100.
Good luck! I hope something works out for you and you get the birth you want
