Those who have gone unassisted, what made you decide to do that instead of using a midwife? Did you feel confident going into it or nervous?

Just needing some opinions here, we may end up having to make a choice between UA homebirth or a hospital birth

I've never done it (although had I waited 15 more minutes to go to the birth center it would have happened!). However, I would suggest heading over to unassistedchildbirth.com and getting to know the ladies over there. There is tons of good info there. I'm a member there and the ladies are very patient and nice.

I have two unassisted births, one midwife attended births and two in hospital dr attended births.

how did I decide? I had wanted a midwife with both but there wasn't any midwives to hire. i do not see any reason to have a dr or a hospital for birth so it was a homebirth again, both times, and was just DH and I.

Homebirth is safer than hospital, and hospitals, in most cases, are unnecessary.

If it came down to hopsital or UA, we'd go UA. I'm more for it than DH (he'd rather have a MW there, but if it came to it, if no MW to hire we'd so go UA)

My husband is okay with unassisted. Its me that's a little nervous about it. I think a lot of that has to do with worrying what other people will say...

Don't tell them. Or if they ask just say, "We were waiting to go to the hospital, then I suddenly had the urge to push and VOILA! the baby was born."
I always find it interesting that people are amazed and excited about "accidental" unassisteds, but freak out about it when it's planned (which, IMO is alot safer than birthing on the side of the road!).

well I'd have to tell my family. My mom will be at the birth and my sisters will be my DDs' guardians during it. So I couldn't avoid that... lol
