I am not sure. I rent my house and didn't mention it to my landlord. I wouldn't hold them liable for any wrong goings anyways so I didn't feel the need. I'm not sure about an apartment.

I can't see any reason you need to. You rent, therefore it is your home and your place to do what you need. As long as you aren't conducting illegal activities in the home you are doing nothing wrong.

I wouldn't think so either. I had a homebirth in a hotel and didn't ask permission, the staff was fine with it (told some ahead others afterwards!)

No, definitely not. It's your HOME. I wouldn't even tell anyone.

Remember, they may own the building, but it's still your home. Would you be responsible for a stain on the carpet? Yes. Could they stop you from doing it in the first place? No.

I would suggest, however, maybe putting a little sign up when you're in labor in case you get loud...maybe something on the door that says "Hi, thanks for stopping by and thank you for your concern. We're actually in the midst of a home birth and are welcoming our child into the world. Stay tuned for the big announcement."

That way if anyone gets concerned about the noise or decides to knock on your door, they don't have to knock or bother you.

you are allowed to homebirth in your residence- it is legal in every state (the midwife is what may be illegal- go figure!) so nope, I wouldn't tell. It isn't their business. And it is so rare that a homebirther would be loud enough for someone to notice... screaming is so much more a hospital thing, and low toned moaning could easily be mistaken for something else.
