Does/Did your midwife have any assistants that were present for your birth or for the appointments? What was their role?

My midwife had a student midwife who attended. She had 2 students but we met with only one, the other was assigned to another half of her patients.

My midwife, her student and then another midwife who I met when I had my bleeding scare at 35 weeks (she did a home visit checkup on me to make sure dane was okay) all attended my birth.

My midwife sat back at most appointments to let her student learn. She asked questions and Katie filled out the forms for the visits, stating the basics and such. During labor my midwife and katie both attended to me. Katie at the end did a great job of being supportive. I think she will make a great midwife and if we have more children after my midwife retires, I will seek her out if she is still in our town

The other midwife (Who is a backup midwife to mine) was awesome and was comic relief for me haha. She took the pictures of Dane's birth!

I had two midwives, they practice together. They had an apprentice that was finishing up early on in my pregnancy, so it was just the two of them at my birth.

Pretty much all the homebirth midwives in our area "support" each other. They all have their own private practice, but are "on-call" to assist at births for each other. They always try to have two at every birth.

Our MW group has 4 MWs and I believe 4 apprentices (MW's in training). We got to meet them all at different appointments. They are all wonderful! They would basically do everything the MWs would do....paperwork, info, blood, bloodpressure, feel the baby, doppler, etc.

We had one of the apprentices are our birth and she did the majority of the checks: internal and external, which was fine with me, she was amazing! We want her at our next birth, she had 3 HBs herself so she was very aware of everything. She's also a massage therapist and massaged my charlie horses inbetween transition! my MW took photos.
