I breastfeed, cloth diaper, but the biggest thing I do for my wallet and the environment is don't buy crap I don't need....sounds easy enough but its harder then you think! LOL Also I try to get hand-me-downs or previously used things all the time. I have a personal goal of no new cloths for London till 1 yr old (minus holiday cloths that is), I would love to shoot for 5 yrs old.
For groceries I coupon clip and buy bulk so it takes longer before we need anything. I also freeze a lot of what I can so there is less eating out and less trips to the store.
For clothing, I love clarence racks haha.
I saved all of my first sons clothes which I don't think I bought any except for a few small things because he had out grown and we didn't have something in the size he needed for that season. So my youngest wears his old clothes. I'm up to 4T now haha.
I would have loved to have hand-me-downs till 5! But I don't know anyone who had any kids around that age who was getting rid of them.
I don't buy what I don't need or really, really want.
So, before I go shopping, I make a list. If I'm tempted to buy anything not on that list (e.g. I go to the store because I need a baking pan and I see a scarf I like), I make a mental note of the item and say "if I still want this tomorrow, I will come back and get it."
I never go back and get it.
For groceries, I mostly stick to the list. That said, I probably spend the most on groceries - it's my sick, little habit, but what can I say, I like good food. And better I spend it on quality produce than a new purse, right?
I shop sales and use coupons for groceries. We have a pretty strict budget, and I like to keep to it. As for saving money on other things, I shop sales and clearance racks for the girls' clothes, and I've saved everything from my first girl, so I haven't ever had to buy much.
Avoid paying full retail for anything as much as I can. I'm really bad about groceries though. We shop for them at the cheapest place, but I have a hard time with coupons. We shop at thrift stores or I make stuff for my kids most of the time. Make my own diapers, etc...
I should be getting our carseat for the new baby for $40-60 less than retail woohoo!
