What sorts of signs did you have when you were in the early stages of labor?

Painful cramps. Whats funny is I was going to bed when labor started. I had a huge Thanksgiving Dinner and noticed at my moms my plug was really starting to go. Thought nothing of it then went home. 11pm, the sharp cramping and tightening started. I think I waited out 5 of them before waking up my husband to tell him. It was weird, I just knew that was it. Not, I think, I knew. I had a few I thinks, but this time something in me said, nope this is real!

my first was clearly labor. There weren't any "signs" that I recognized before hand, I just went straight into active labor.

My second I thought I was just having constipation cramping for the first 2-3 hours of it

Painful cramping is about the only "pre-labor" signs that I had with both boys.

No such thing as early stage for me. I barely had an active labor with DS. Contractions became regular at 6 cm. He was born 1 hour and 40 minutes labor.

With my girls I did not have early or active labor. I started labor in transition.
