I've been trying to contact the midwife I used for Mary, but with no luck. I had to call her assistant to get her new phone number. I called her two weeks ago, and never heard back. I called again on Monday, still haven't heard back from her. I suppose it is possible she's out of town or something? Phone not working? Should I keep trying her, ya think? I'm hesitant to call the assistant again b/c she told me she had just had a baby and wasn't working w/ the mw for now.

DH says we should just plan to go unassisted, esp. if mw won't call back. I'd be okay with that for the most part BUT considering we had a "negative outcome" the one and only time we planned a UC, I'm hesitant to make that decision. I located a CNM who is about 90 min. away... I haven't tried calling her back yet. So, second question would be what is the main difference in using a CNM vs. a traditional midwife. I know the training and certification is different, but would they have basically the same model of care?

Advice welcome!

I'd talk to her. If she is doing homebirths I think that they would. For me the reason I wanted a CNM is because of my history of hemorrhaging. In fact the traditional midwife I contacted wouldn't even see me because of my history. I know after meeting with mine yesterday she said she offers herbal alternatives as well and she was just amazing. For myself I would not do an unassisted birth because I am too high risk for that, but really you are the only one who can make that decision. (Oh and btw my midwife is an hour and half a way as well. She charges an extra fee for traveling, but she still takes patients in my area.) Good luck to you with your decision. You could always call her and meet with her and then kind of decide from there.

If it was me I would contact the other midwife and at least meet with her. If she doesn't seem like a good fit maybe she will know of others in the area that she could recommend?

I agree, it can't hurt to talk to her and see if you are a good fit. IMO the schooling and certification doesn't make a difference, its whether or not you two get along and share the same ideas surrounding your birth.

I agree too, talk to the CNM. And keep trying to reach the other one.
