I would quite like to have a recording of the birth (it can always be deleted later on if it's awful ) and I was wondering if anyone else is planning to do this? I have quite a few people not believing that I can have a natural birth and I just want to have a video that I can show people and say "It IS possible and it's not something you have to be afraid of!"
I'm going to be doing a hypno/water birth and I want my husband free to support me and rub my back, so I'm trying to figure out if I should ask one of our MWs to record the labour (at least part of it, with tripod/place to put camera available) to get a member of DH's family to be present to video (I'd rather not have too many people there though..) or if we would be better setting up a tripod for the whole thing...
I'm hiring a professional photographer for similar reasons... not necessarily to prove to people that I can do it, but more so for my own memories. I'd definitely do a recording too if I could, but we are just doing photos.
I have had the same thought! The photographer I used for my wedding does pregnancy photos as well and they are beautiful. I was half wanting to ask her to take pictures of our home birth, but I also don't want to bug her at 2am!
So I thought maybe DH could film part of my labor. He can do it for short periods of time throughout the whole process. I know I personally just zone out during labor and don't require him to be with me the whole time so I wouldn't care if he got up to do this. But it would be nice if someone else could do it. I would ask my mom if she ends up being able to be here for it.
Could you ask your midwife about it at your next appt??
I have all three of mine on video. But I've had my mom or sister do the shooting and they dont' quite understand the POINT of taping it. So they dont' do a very good job. Next time I'm gonna find someone to do it WELL.

My DH taped the pushing part with DD2. We tried to tape DD1 but my DH waited too long to hand the camera to my mom and didn't turn it on, so we only have me pulling her out of the water. I like having the video, even though it's pretty graphic.
I have been thinking about this too, pictures and video. I think I'm going to talk to my midwife about the assisting midwife taking pictures. I'd be okay with my mom doing it, and DH doing some, but my mom takes awful pictures lol.

I think I'll set up a tripod, I'm sure DH can manage it for me in between contractions (I watched a homebirth where the guy was dipping in and out sorting the water temp in the pool etc)... I'll probs get DH or assisting MW to take some pictures too
I just find some of the hypnobirth videos on youtube etc so inspiring and I'd love to make one of my own to share (hopefully it'll be just as inspiring )!
I had my mw appointment yesterday and forgot to mention about videoing the birth, so I'll have to remember to next appointment (3 weeks).
DH and I have asked DH's 2 aunts to do video and photography. They have agreed and we're really excited about that. I'm really comfortable around these 2 ladies, and they are very laid back and are in awe of homebirth. My Midwife also brings a camera and video recorder and if DH's aunts can't make it my dad will be able to do everything.

I love the idea of video tapes and photos. If there is one thing I feel like I've lacked from my previous births its the pictures! At the time you probably can't imagine wanting to see the photos again, but a year or two later, its so wonderful to look back on those precious moments.
