DH came home and surprised me for our 11th anniversary. He's been deployed with the Army for over a year, and I wasn't expecting to see him for 5-10 more months. Well, let's just say that pregnancy is a very good possibility. If it happens, I will be having a home birth. DH is not on board, but, he's resigned himself to my wishes. LOL! Of course, if he doesn't get to come home until December, we'll be lucky if he's home for the birth anyway.

So, question - how does one go about finding a homebirth midwife in a state that doesn't allow them? If DH does get to come home in August, we'll be moving to MO and will have no problem finding a midwife. But for now, I live in IL. We have lots of Amish and Mennonite communities around here, and I know they have midwives, but I don't know how to get in touch with them, or if they'd come to me.

So, yeah, totally jumping the gun, as I'm only 5DPO, but I can't help it! When the mind races like this, who can, right? LOL

How far in to IL do you live? Maybe you could contact ones in MO that serve that area...some are willing to travel if you pay traveling expenses....

What a romantic story!!!

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

I'm 15 minutes away from Iowa, and about 30 minutes from Missouri. I'm right on the Mississippi river.

I've been to a Midwives of Iowa meeting before (I'm an aspiring midwife), and as far as I know, there aren't any close to me there. The Missouri midwives meet down in Jefferson City, and that's 4 hours from here, so I've never met them. The one lady I did email with said that they don't give out names of midwives?, so I don't know who may be close to me.

Thanks! I think it's pretty romantic! He'd been planning it for 2 months. I have some very sweet and sneaky friends and family.

Call your local La Leche League group, or call Doulas. They should know of practicing Midwives. Here is a directory of Midwives in your state

But here's the thing, the midwives I'd be able to use wont be on any list. They're illegal. They wont be advertising on the internet. How do I find the underground network?
