Wanted to share with you ladies, since I know you all will be excited and appreciate this...at least I hope
Well we're living in the UK. (still new here and barely know anyone.) and since we're planning home birth #2....DS will be about 21 months old around EDD...and we want him here for the birth but have someone here for him, so he won't stress out seeing me in pain and stuff, especially since he's pretty young. So at first we had discussed that my mom would fly out from the states and hoping that baby #2 would arrive while she's here so she could watch Zane so I wouldn't have to worry about him while in labor as I know that would stress me out and probably stall the progression... but of course there's no guarantee that baby would arrive when we had planned for her to come out, baby could come earlier or later....
DH will be taking off 2 weeks when baby arrives and my mom's like "why don't i come out for 2 weeks after Simon goes back to work" which makes sense. at first my mom was like watch your friends son when she has her baby and then they'll watch Zane when we have ours....but they'd have a newborn and I don't want a newborn, and 2 toddler boys here while in labor, just my son, ya know? less stress and commotion. Nor did I want my son to go to their home, we want him here.
so I got to thinking about it and started researching doulas in my area and emailed them all asking if they would offer sibling support (watch/take care of Zane for me while in labor) a few wrote back saying they've done that before and what their rates for that would be. Some were very pricey!! I couldn't believe it! Then I think we may have found the perfect fit doula. She wrote back and was ever so sweet, gave me her rate which I get a discount for being local- how nice! and we set up a free consult for Thursday evening. If we want to use her she said she'll come back a few times between now and EDD to meet Zane and vice versa.
So I really think this is a great idea. I'm excited! It makes the most sense to us. Having someone on call- which is their job, who is accustomed to birth and home births and watching/caring for children- she has a lil girl herself
it makes me feel better knowing that someone will be there for us and mainly for Zane during baby #2's arrival. I was getting worried thinking the what if's no one's here for him.
I really hope we like this doula....there are others in the area but they are twice or more her rate, so I'm praying she's the right fit for our family.
I'm going to ask her about photographs- if she'd be willing to take some after Zane meets baby and such. And ask about her post natal rates for after my mom leaves- maybe have her come once a week for an hour or two at a time to help with chores and letting me get a bath or nap or something.
Just wanted to share my excitement....I can't believe I never thought of this before!
I really really hope she's the one for you!!!! I just lost the doula that I had,but it wasn't a good match at all and I wasn't happy or comfortable. I'm pretty sure I found a new one though. We've spoken just once but there was an instant connection and she knows what I'm wanting and needing from my doula! I'm so happy!
she's amazing! it was a great meeting, she seems like the perfect fit for us. she's really sweet and educated! i'm sooo excited!! she's even going to hook me up with other support and friends! and we'll have play dates for Zane and her lil girl who is almost the same age. She says Zane is boyfriend material- he's so handsome.
