After Jonah was born, I had major swelling. I had a lot of swelling when we went into the hospital because of high BP; I had to wear DH's flip flops because it's all that would fit on my feet. But I practically had to go home barefoot, because even those were too small for my swollen feet after birth! I looked like the state puff marshmallow man from Ghost Busters.

My mom said it was from the IV fluids and the dose of pitocin. Should I not expect to swell after this birth, or have you experienced swelling after a homebirth?

I would agree that was from the iv fluids. it shouldn't happen without an IV.

I also vote IV fluids - I had no swelling after DD's birth.

Ditto, it was most definitely because of the IV fluids. I had the same thing with my first hospital birth, but then no swelling in my next births.

I had a homebirth transfer - no pit and very, very little fluids, but I puffed up so bad after that it HURT. I had no ankles. I lost NO weight after the baby came out. It finally shed on the 5th day and the nurses said it was directly related to my blood pressure, which spiked in labor and stayed high after the birth.

hmm, that sounds similar to me except my blood pressure went down after the birth. Literally from one extreme to the other. Maybe I should put those flip flops back on my list. They are only a few dollars at Old Navy right now.

It can't hurt, right? Buy some that are cute so you'll use them anyway.

I would think it was blood pressure related, I've had 3 hospital deliveries and LOTS of IVs and never had swelling issues, but I've never had BP problems.

I had an IV with zero BP problems and blew up like a balloon, however my ankles and feet had been somewhat swollen for a couple of weeks before that. Hoping the same thing you are this time around!
