Hi there. I didn't think I'd have to think about this right yet, but I just found out I'm pregnant. surprise! My first child was a cesarean (two weeks early, 7 pounds 4 ounces) and I had a VBAC (almost two weeks "late", 9 pounds 14 ounces). My last pregnancy, I miscarried, but before I did...I had a doctor's appointment where a doctor who is normally pro-natural, warned me that I tend to carry big babies and that I'll probably end up with a cesarean because a big baby is more likely to cause uterine rupture.
Our province isn't legislated for midwives, ect...and the nearest hospital doesn't do vbacs yet (I delivered my daughter in a hospital an hour or so away and it was a huge fight to have a vbac). I know a midwife across the border where I could go to her home to have my baby and I'm seriously considering either this option, or finding another laymidwife from a nearby province and having a homebirth.

I really dont think I'm up for a big fight with the hospital staff this time. I'm not sure I have it in me this time around. My daughter's delivery was an amazing successful VBAC...8-9 hours of labour (she was posterior, but turned on her own) and I brought her down and out in less than 15 minutes. She had a bit of trouble breathing, but nothing that a little wave of oxygen didn't fix. In other words...I can handle birthing a large baby without trouble.

I'm wondering if anyone else has chosen to have a large VBAC homebirth (I know many have)...I feel like I need some support to truly choose to go this direction! Thanks so much!

I would say that if you have already had one large baby VBAC, there is no reason to believe you couldn't do it again. Is there a hospital farther away that you could drive to? I am having a homebirth VBAC but I don't really have big babies.

I hope you find a good solution, from your past births it sounds like a section for size would be silly.

There is a hospital an hour and a bit away where I had a vbac with my daughter, but their cesarean rate is really high and they mention c-sections at the slightest stall in labour (you basically need to dilate 1-2 cms an hour). I felt like there was sooo much pressure to get the baby out or they'd cut me open whether I liked it or not. =(

what about laboring at home a long time and then heading to the hospital? are you willing/able to check your own cervix, or can DH?
