I also thought it was interesting that they suggested that there are more hospital options such as birth by a MW in the hospital. That is just not true in all parts of the country. I live in Las Vegas, a fairly large metropolitan area. There are no hospitals locally that allow MW to deliever. There used to be but then there was a situation where after delievery with a CNM a woman was severely hemroging and the on call doctor did not come. The CNM eventualy did a DNC saving this woman's life (even according to the woman) but as a result she had to surrender her license and all local hospitals stoped allowing for MW delievery.
The nurses "would not have anything to do with me," Flaxington recalled. She said one nurse told her, "You have some nerve trying to have a baby at home. You should be in jail."
That right there angers me so much.
Ditto. makes me want to cry. My baby was born at home and ended up in the nicu because of breathing problems 2 hours later (NOTHING to do with home birth) and the nurses and doctors were totally respectful of me and my birth. One even told me she wanted a homebirth and we talked about the safety of it. It was still super hard - I can't imagine how that poor woman felt!
I also feel so angry when I hear someone say - oh I don't know about those home births - when the hear about my birth story. It had nothing to do with it - and you don't here people saying - oh I don't know about those hospital births every time a baby's in the nicu.
haaa - ok. LOL - end rant!
Thank you Kiliki for my first beautiful Siggie!

There are no hospitals that have MWs here either. But the nearest hospital to me, and the clinic that we use for our Pediatrician, support homebirths and I had a OBGYN there who said he'd be my back up for my homebirth.
