Sooo I finally found a traveling midwife who is willing to work with us (We live in a very rural area, no one in this state will take us in case we had to transfer) and I am sooo excited, but my husband is a little apprehensive. When brylie was born she had 0apgar at 1 and 5 minutes. (Probably due to 20 hours of pitocin from an emergency induction for HELLP)

but other than the induction we had a beautiful birth - no pain meds, hardly any tearing, etc. it was pretty great...but I want to be home next time!

anyway, is there anything specific I should be prepared to ask this midwife? My friend who is a doula referred me to her (she only meets clients on referral and she initiates contact, etc..because she has been in jail before (for doing sutures! in Iowa (where I live) that is considered "practicing medicine" and HBMW aren't allowed to do that...a friend of a client turned her in apparently, which is why she only works on referral)...she also can't use medicine, so all her remedies are homeopathic.

My doula also uses her for her homebirths (she's had 2 and is due again in July) and just loves her, but she is out of town so I can't ask her what questions I should ask the midwife.

anyway, any suggestions for questions I can ask? She is coming to our home at 9:30AM so I was thinking I would have muffins, fruit and juice available? Any other suggestions? Thanks so much for anything you can offer!

Thanks! I have been thinking about it a lot since Brylie's birth...and hubby wanted a HB with Brylie, but we couldn't find a MW (We didn't have a doula, and at the time I didnt know the person who referred me to this MW) but Brylie's presentation scared him away...nevermind that all it took to resucitate her was some rubbing, suction, and oxygen, all of which I am sure the midwife is capable of providing...it just took about 6 minutes to get her going

Oh I hope it goes great. Keep us posted. If you google "questions for midwife" usually a lot comes up...I think if you go to the midwifery sites there is usually a suggested question list.

The one question I keep reminding myself to ask mine next time is if I have to provide the birthing tub or if they have one they loan out....otherwise I'd go by a list of questions....write down the ones that apply to you.

Good luck!

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

*I* honestly dont have a lot of questions, but I know my husband does since he is the one who is so concerned. I am more interested in hearing what she says, and I'm sure if I have questions they will pop into my head...but I know my hubby..he will be super quiet, so I feel like I need to advocate for him

I hope your meeting goes well!! I would talk to her about what her emergency protocols are, how involved would she be in the event of a transfer, what her transfer rate is, what sorts of measures she takes if the "what ifs" come up, etc. Those sorts of answers might be helpful to your DH.

My hubby asked a lot of questions a few that I remember were:

What is transfer rate? What reasons would she transfer?
What would cause her to refer me to an OB?
What type of "emergency" equipment did she bring?
What certifications did her Birth Assistants have? And what was their role during the birth?
What would she do in the even I started to hemmorage after birth?
What kind of monitering did she do during labor/delivery?
(and my favorite) Does she consider a home birth more safe and beneficial than a hospital birth? And why?

He asked about a dozen others, but those were the ones that I remember as they were all based around problems from my delivery with my son.
