I got the approval paper from my insurance and they approved everything but the supplies. I'm so excited now its not 100% covered so ill end up paying 2k outta pocket but they did cover half the cost which is awesome to me

awesome! I have Tri care standard. They are sopposed to cover homebirth 100% BUT they only cover CNMs that are "in network" providers. there are only 5 homebirht cnms here in NC and none who are in network. so they cover about 40%

Yeah its considered 100% of the allowed amount and I went through a network.provider but her partner isn't in network so she bills for the remainder.

Where did you find your midwife? I just moved away from SD. I know a couple of the midwifes at Best start attend homebirths, but there is always that little catch up with Tricare. However im grateful. we will be paying around 1500 our of pocket.

I found her on the tricare site when i was searching midwives, her name is Brooke Ray. I really like her so far, if tricare wouldn't have paid anything for the homebirth we would have been going to best start lol small world. I delivered my son at balboa and i just didn't want to go back there, i liked most of the people who were there and had a midwife, but when they needed to turn the baby when i was pushing an OB did it and was very rude and actually told me to be quite, i was screaming because the pain was so much when she was turning the baby. I just don't wanna deal with all that again

I'm so glad they approved it!! Our insurance approved part of our home birth as well. We had to pay about 2k out of pocket as well.

That is awesome!

Something I learned while researching if Tricare would cover HB so I could convince my hubby if/when I get pregnant. I have standard and since the midwife (for when/if we get pregnant) we have chosen is out of network, I am supposed to pay 20%. However the tricare Rep told me there is a small loop hole that says if you can get an authorization (no matter if you are on standard/prime or if your CNM is in/out of network) from your PCM (or if you Midwife will fill out the form and fax it into tricare), IF tricare approves it they will cover the remainder of all Out of Pocket costs (except for supplies because they are considered "unnecessary" ). The rep told me that tricare approves these authorizations about 90% of the time, it just takes some jumping around to get the authorization done. So you might want to call them and ask about it And tricare also told me they have a $1000 cap on Out of Pocket costs, so if you hit that for some reason all health care after that for that fiscal year is supposed to be covered 100% (again, no matter if you use an in/out of network provider).
