Hello, I'm new to this board. Right now I'm only 7 weeks with my first child(I've had 2 miscarriages).
For most of my life I've had "issues" with hospitals and many MDs, I also have always had a poor relationship with my mother which I believe is partly due to the fact that I was born C-section in the 70s, and she was so drugged up that she didn't see me for 3 DAYS!
Fast forward to now and pretty much as soon as the test read positive I knew I didn't want to go to a hospital or have a "standard" medical birth.
My husband took some convincing.
We visited our local hospital last week and I burst into tears the second we stepped back outside the doors. My husband said the entire time they were showing us around, he could feel my body tensing up and that I looked like "a deer in headlights."
So he found a birthing center and midwife, both of which I'm very happy with.
3 days ago we met with our midwife for the first time and she suggested that we consider homebirth. My husband is slowly opening to the idea and he especially became interested when it was suggested that we could give birth in a pool right on our back deck.
Has anyone here given birth outside? Was it as peaceful and serene as I'm imagining it? Or have I lost my mind?

Anyway, I can't wait to get to know all of you, get some advice and hear your stories.

While I haven't given birth outside, I read a few stories about women who did and it sounded and beautiful. I think anywhere on your own terms and in your environment is wonderful. However, I became quite loud at the end and the neighbors would have probably had some issues with that. If we had no one for miles around and the weather was calm, I probably would have been outside.

I agree....if I were out in the country I would LOVE to do it outside....but currently we live in town and I just cannot imagine us doing it outside...we do have a privacy fence but it's not soundproof lol....so I dont imagine I'd be outside....but if it were at the place we'll be moving to later next year...then YES i'd consider outside!

We aren't to give a baby milk, berries, or peanut butter. We are to introduce new foods one at a time. But it's OK to inject several viruses, bacteria, aluminum, formaldehyde, phenoxyethanol, animal serum, mercury, squalene and more into an 8 week old? I don't think so.
In order to be healthy it is an unfortunate fact that people must be allowed the opportunity to be ill. I trust my body and those of my children to work correctly against the relatively benign diseases they vax for, and do not trust the ingredients in the vaccinations.
Our choice to not vax isn't based in ignorance, poverty, conspiracy theory and rumor. It's research, common sense, fact and evidence based..something the medical community has largely forgot about.

I've actually been thinking about doing that myself. I guess the two big factors are going to be neighbors and weather. If you're due in early August it might be really warm wherever you live, and here in MN it's really buggy that time of year, so you'd risk a mosquito attack during labour.
I think it sounds like a beautiful, wonderful plan, just make sure to leave yourself open to labouring inside in case of bad weather.
Have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

I would love to birth outside!!!!

DH and I are wanting to live off the grid in the future and I told him, "You know that's just you and I, the girls, FIL and nature for future babies right?" and he's like... 'yeaaaa...." I think it'd be beautiful and I'd love it. Plus, you don't have as much to clean up!!!!

Thanks for everyone's support. I'm fine giving birth in the house as well, but being out in nature sounds so serene. Of course the weather will be the final deciding factor, but I'm not concerned about neighbors. There is also the possibility of going through some of the labor while outside and moving indoors for the birth.

I definitely considered birthing outside, but my homebirth baby was due in November and that wasn't really a good option LOL. My first was born in July and we took a walk outside during labor and it was really nice. I'm a very quiet birther so if I had the privacy I would birth outside.

Good luck!!

If I had had the space (as in the neighbours not so close) I would have loved to at least labour outside. You do want to make sure you have the house prepared too - so if you want to go in, you can. I planned to give birth in a tub and ended up on my bed. LOL! So ye. I think it would be cool!

Welcome to the board! I think weather has the biggest thing to do with laboring outside. If its warm then go for it!!!

I didn't give birth outside. It was storming when I gave birth, and it was very late and dark. I would love to give birth outside if I didn't have such noisy and nosey neighbors

I've seen videos of it happening and they seemed really peaceful and nice.

Sounds amazing! Whatever ends up happening will be amazing but outside would give you quite a special story

Depending on weather, I will probably labor outside, but it just depends on how hot it is and what time of the day it is. Our neighbors are very close to us though and there isn't any privacy, so I wouldn't give birth outside because I wouldn't feel comfortable. I think if you have the right environment that you feel comfortable in, it would be a very peaceful place to give birth.

First of all...That is AWESOME and soooo sweet that your hubby was able to read you like that, and then helped you find a better option! You guys will make a great team!

I think birthing outside would be cool! Our neighbors are WAY too close, and come into our yard any time they please, so that just wouldn't work for us, but maybe some day when we live out on property of our own
