Update 9/30.........so I contacted One more midwife and she came over for a consultation today which turned into a full blown prenatal appt. She's GREAT!! Been doing this for 30+ years and you can tell she really has a passion for it. She has a sliding scale and worked out a price for me that is less than half of her normal fee and even left me with a birth kit and pool liner today. She said she would *like* to have $600 upfront before baby arrives but understands that we just moved, dh just started a new job and that we have a large family and said to just to the best I can.

Sooooo, looks like my home birth is back on!!! I see her again on Oct 10th at her home office and then she will come to me for the remaining visits. She even made my 4 yr old daughter her little apprentice today letting her help take my blood pressure and even let her use the doppler all by herself to try and find baby's heartbeat. My daughter Loved it.

************************************************** *************

We moved to Tennessee last weekend (from Indiana) and I've talked to a great midwife on the phone a few times and got to meet her a few days ago. I loved her from the start and was so excited about having a home birth. Unfortunately, I didn't fully ask all my financial questions further in advance and it's a no go for us Her fee is $2600 (and that won't change even though I'm nearly 35 weeks) and she needs a Minimum of 30% down (prefers 50) by 36 weeks. Since this big move took up all our savings and dh just started a new job there's no way we could give her anything even close to that by next weekend. I'm really bummed, but totally understand where she's coming from as well.

She did suggest a CNM though that delivers at the hospital that's about 2 minutes from my house so I'm going to meet with her on Monday. This hospital will let you labor in a tub but will Not let you give birth in the tub which is what disappoints me most. The closest birth center is about an hour away and even they won't let you birth in the tub.

I guess the upside is, since the hospital is so close I can labor at home for almost all of it before heading in..............that is................if baby doesn't accidentally come at home

Oh, you know....sometimes these babies just come so fast that you just don't have TIME to get to the hospital! LOL

Sorry about all this stuff. What a bummer!

I'm sorry things didn't work out. I hope your hospital birth is amazing! You can bring some of your own stuff from home to make the room more homey

SO glad it worked out. I have t say I am jealous of all these ladies who are in areas where the midwives charge fees of under $3,000. Here we have two birth centers and they charge $6,100 for home birth or birth at the birth center!!
