Has anyone used one instead of a home birth? Not sure if this is the right forum to put this on...if it needs to be moved I will!
My dh is 100% more comfortable using the birthing center instead of midwife in our home. the birthing center is staffed by CNM's and RN's. You have your own room/actual bed and each room has a big tub to be used as a birthing tub. Epidurals/pain meds are not an option here. Its a new building and it really does look lovely. The CNM's and RN's have years of experience working in birthing centers/hospitals and home births.
Just looking for any experiences using a birthing center vs a midwife in the home. thanks!!
we dont have Birth Centers in Ontario so i have no experience, im sure there are mamas on this board who have done a birth center and home birth, but you might get more info/answers if you pop over to the Natural child birth board and ask there too
With my second DD I used a birth center and with my third I had a home birth. The major difference between the 2 is obvious, if you use a birth center, you have to go somewhere for the birth. Our home birth was easier because we didn't have to worry about packing a bag, finding someone to take the kids when I went into labor, and I didn't have the mental stress of going somewhere when I was in labor. However, we considered a home birth with my second also, and just like yours, my DH wasn't comfortable with the idea of a home birth so the birth center was our compromise. I did love it, my midwives were awesome and it was a comfortable and supportive environment for a natural birth.
Good luck with your decision!
